1. IMaithon is located within 250 km. distance from Kolkata by road. You have to go by Durgapur Expressway upto Barakar , take a right turn and you will reach your destiny. Alternatively, go to Barakar by train which is just 8 km. away from Maithon.
2. Except from october to februery(Peak Season), Maithon is less crowded by tourists.
3. Hotels and lodges are quite a few. Majumdar Nibus( A DVC Guest house), TouristResort by WBTDC, Tourist Lodgeof Forest Deptt. and Irrigation Deptt. are noteble. Some private lodges like Shantinibus and Kalyaneswari Lodge are also good for staying. In peak season, it is better to book hotels in advance.
4. If you are religious minded, you can go to Kalyaneswari Temple.
5. 21 km. away from Maithon, there is another dam caled Panchet which is even bigger and more beautiful.
6. There is arrangement for boating in the dam. There is paddle boats, boats and speed boats. Hire a boat and go the 'Sabuj Deep'. It will be a journey to remember.
